Driving a car is an everyday occurrence for most people in Kentucky, but usually we don’t appreciate the potential danger involved. Yes, we have all seen the aftermath of a car accident on the side of the road, but the reality is that motor vehicle accidents can lead to serious injuries and even death in the worst case scenarios.
Statistics shine a light
According to statistics kept by the National Safety Council, it appears that a large percentage of traffic deaths that occur in motor vehicle accidents in any given year can be attributed to collisions between two or more vehicles.
It is true that there are many deaths that can be blamed on collisions with fixed objects – one-vehicle accidents – and even a significant percentage that can be attributed to pedestrian accidents. But, car-to-car collisions are the most common cause of traffic deaths. In 2021 alone, over 20,000 traffic deaths occurred in those types of collisions.
There is no shortage of reasons for motor vehicle accidents to occur. Distracted driving is a major cause these days, but drunk driving and drowsy driving are still major causes of traffic collisions, which can lead to injuries and deaths.
If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, you may be able to pursue a personal injury lawsuit to attempt to recover financial compensation. That compensation could be used to cover costs such as medical bills and lost wages from work, among other expenses. If your accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, you deserve compensation for all you have lost.
