Why traumatic brain injuries are so devastating

On Behalf of | Jul 26, 2021 | Injuries

Life is unpredictable for people in Kentucky. Things may seem like things have become predictable and people begin to find themselves in a routine. However, even when doing something they do every day, unexpected events can occur. Some of these unexpected events can have devastating results as well. One of these types of events is being in a motor vehicle accident or other type of accident.

Even when people are doing everything they can do to keep themselves safe, if other people are negligent, innocent victims can still suffer injuries. Some injuries are very severe as well and have a major effect on people’s lives. They could require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation and limit the victim’s ability to do many daily activities. This can include being able to work and earn a living. One of these types of catastrophic injuries is a traumatic brain injury.

The brain is maybe the most important part of the body. It is responsible for telling the body what to do, allows us to reason and controls our emotions. Without it the body does not know what to do. Therefore, when it is injured it can affect the entire body in different ways.

Effects of traumatic brain injuries

Some of the common effects of a serious traumatic brain injury are:

  • Losing consciousness for periods of time
  • Persistent headaches
  • Nausea
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Loss of coordination and numbness in fingers and toes
  • Confusion
  • Agitation and other abnormal behaviors
  • Comas
  • Slurred speech

There are many different reasons that people in Kentucky suffer traumatic brain injuries, but many are caused by the negligent actions of others. If the injury is caused in this manner, the victims may be entitled to compensation for their injuries. As stated above, these injuries can require significant medical treatment and medical bills can add up quickly. People may also not be able to work while they are recovering and lose income as result too. The compensation they may be able to receive can help pay for all of those costs. Experienced attorneys understand the importance of the compensation and may be able to help one receive what they deserve.
